Inclusive Activities Booklet

The Inclusive Activities Booklet is designed to reveal personalities and life-stories of the older person with photos to encourage communication across languages and cognitive abilities. It assists new care workers, Lifestyle staff or Diversional Therapists, and volunteers to fulfil the cultural and social needs of people receiving aged care services, especially those at risk of isolation and loneliness.

The Inclusive Activities Booklet suggests seven activities to support older people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds to express themselves and improve mood by feeling welcomed and engaged. It can also easily be used with Australian-born older people.

The in-depth activities in the Inclusive Activities Booklet promote person-centred care by helping staff to begin conversations to learn more about the older person’s cultural and language backgrounds, social needs, character, and preferences. They provide prompts to support older people and staff to get to know each other better, build stronger friendships, and feel more ‘at home’ in a residential facility or other care service.
